I mentioned in my previous post I'll be doing makeup for pinup shoot. I've been buying new things and keeping in contact with my friend and photographer to make sure everything is in place.I always have a lot of makeup since I was allowed to wear makeup and last year I wanted to other people makeup.If you want to do other people makeup you need shades and eye shadows that will work with their skin tone.Sanitation is important you have to get things you will use on other people such as disposable mascara wands,sponges,q-tips etc.I would like to share with you what I brought to have for the pinup shoot,with pinup you don't need a ton of makeup.If you go threw photos from the pinup and 20's to 50's era women have on powder,eyeliner,mascara,the red lip stick or nude lips.Most of the time I like to wear my lips nude or have on red lipstick,some of my makeup is inspired by the pinup era. This is the powder pro pallet from Morphe Brushes,the pallet look smaller on the website and bigger in person.I tested the powder to see the coverage and it's something I can use on the girls for the shoot.I love powder and working with it,I'm not a fan of liquid foundation and I use it once in a while if my ache is being a jerk so I can have extra coverage.I'm most likley will use powder #2 and #4 on lighter skin tones and darker skin tones #5 and #6, I'm #5 and #6 I mixed them to match my skin tone.Powder #1 can be used as a highlight and #3 or #6 can be used for contouring.I'll add liquid foundation to have it just in case even though I don't like to use it.
I brought concealer and I never buy it for myself.I got into Ben Nye due to them being cruelty free and Frends Beauty give good pro discounts on Ben Nye products so why not give them a shot.Ben Nye makeup is for theater like MAC is for photo shoots and theater. The reason why I brought tattoo concealer cause I know I will get more coverage,so I don't need to use a lot to cover up discoloration.I tested it on my dark tattoos and they were gone.It took a lot of work and gentle blending to make it look like I didn't cover something.If you need to cover tattoos Ben Nye will work for you and will need an hour before you leave for work if you are trying it out the first time.It took me about 45 mins to cover my tattoos.
I know.... I said I didn't like ELF products I brought mascara and brow gel.ELF always work for someone else other than me,the chemistry is not there between me and ELF.I needed mascara and brow gel I didn't double dip,I use disposable mascara wands to keep it clean.I don't need amazing mascara due to the high chance of me using eye lash strips and mascara is to hide the eyelashes.The clear mascara that comes with brow gel,it will be used on the eyebrows too,the reason I might use the clear mascara if I have crazy eyelashes and don't want the black mascara to ruin it.That is the only point I can think of using the clear mascara,yeah to me clear mascara is to keep eyebrows intact.It's cheaper to buy clear mascara than the label saying brow gel.
What's in my makeup kit? I brought a pallet so can mix and be sanitary Frends Beauty sell them super cheap and I'll buy a knife with it so scrap the makeup out. Right now I'm using q-tips and end of makeup brush to dig out makeup.

It's been a week since I "blogged",I didn't really have anything to write about until now.=] I brought another pallet from Hard Candy called Naturally Gorgeous and its similar to Urban Decay Naked pallet 30 bucks cheaper.The golden color they have in the pallet is a duplicate of MAC Amber Lights and some of the shades are also in the Pinking of You pallet(previous blog).I did a nighttime look with the pallet and used a purple eyeliner by Ruby Kisses with sparkles since purple and golden colors look awesome together.I'll try out more Ruby Kisses products since I was impressed with their 24 hr eye define eyeliner and I read the nail polishes are cruelty free,I've seen nothing on the makeup.If I find out they are not I won't buy it again,that's simple.The reason why I gone for Naturally Gorgeous Pallet instead of the other pallets,I'll be doing makeup for a pinup shoot and I could use some browns for natural makeup.
As you see this pallet look similar to Urban Decay(the eye shadows) without you spending a lot.I highlighted the colors I used and had fun with it.If you go to Walmart the pallets are called Top Ten Eye Shadow Pallets with adorable names Pinking of You,Naturally Gorgeous,Smoke Out(Smoky eye shadow pallet people,I know what you are thinking lol),Green With Envy,and Feelin Blue.I'll buy another one when I get paid to have them in my kit in case I get a vegan client.The Walmart in Vista,ca have Hard Candy in store and the two Oceanside,ca locations don't have them.The products can be purchased online and the site direct you to the Walmart website because the brand is ONLY exclusive to Walmart,I can see that changing in the future and other stores might carry it.Its 6 bucks and come with a small tube of mascara,it doesn't hurt to try it out.
The packaging is the same and I'm not a fan of it.That is another reason why people don't try out different brands because the packaging is not appealing.The lace going to across it doesn't go well due to the cheap looking packaging,that is my take on it.The reason I wanted to try it out because its cruelty free and I've seen positive reviews,cost 6 bucks,if I hated it wouldn't be a huge loss.It comes with the same tube of mascara Lashaholic and I love it,I don't like the wand(I used a disposable wand I liked) and I have allergies at the end of the day it kinda smudged.It didn't ruin my eye shadow since my drop shadow was dark colors and no one will notice.It gives nice volume to my eyelashes even though I like to wear strip lashes.
On to my makeup I spend over 30 mins on,usually it will take me 5 to 10mins if its natural.Since I was going out during the night I had to make my "natural" makeup look awesome,I was happy with it.
Close up of my eyes and I finally tried out the dramatic eye lashes and read previous blog if you want to read about them.
I used four shades and I started with primer then the lightest color to the left all over my lid and up to eye brows for highlight.For night time or smoky eyes I like to start out with lightest shade I like build up to darker shades.
I used the Ruby Kisses purple 24 hr eye define and the eyeliner have sparkles and perfect for night time=] I think purple and golden colors look good together.Its the first time I used it and been sitting in my kit for three months.I'll use it more when I go out and the sparkle is hard to wash off to warn you.Ruby Kisses is sold in a beauty supply in Oceanside,ca called Sunny beauty supply right next to In n Out off Hacienda(if you are local you know where).You can go on their website to buy it if you don't feel like hunting for it.The picture is not that awesome and you can look on Google for better pictures.
I used Mark Get in Line to cover my strip lashes and added more purple eyeliner on top of it when it dried.I also used Mark Scandalash on my bottom lashes,it doesn't smudge on me.If you checked out my other posts you will see a picture of it.
Whats in my makeup kit?I have a photo shoot coming up and every pay day I'll buy certain amount of products to build my kit.It will be two pay checks to get the items I need for the shoot,my sister I talked about in my posts offered to give me things if I couldn't get it right away.
I was roaming around Walmart and I needed sponges it was under 2 bucks for a smaller pack,the larger ones was 5 bucks,its latex free and YAY!The reason why I'm happy about that is I won't have to worry about possible allergies.Eyelash glue have latex and I don't know of any eye lash glue that is latex free,if you know please tell me and it must work great.
I also brought black and brown Wet n Wild eyeliner/brow pencil and its super long.Since I'm starting out it will last me forever and I tested it before I use it on clients.I used the brown pencil for my eyebrows and it glided on smoothly .The pencils are called Color Con and its 97 cents at Walmart,its not bad for super long pencils. Recently Wet n Wild added the cruelty free bunny on their products so you don't have to question when you purchase products.
The end of 2013 I decided for 2014 I'll follow my dreams and add makeup as my side job.In my previous blog I've mention I've done makeup sporadically and I did obtain a MAC Pro Card as pinup model.I never updated my card due to me wanting cruelty free products in my kit.I hit up a few companies that interest me to get discounts so I can build my makeup kit and I have a modeling background but no pictures of makeup I have done on other people that makes the process of obtaining pro discounts is a bit challenging. Right now I obtain some pro discounts from MUD Cosmetics the one I wanted badly and have good products for dark skin tones.I use their brown corrector to hide ache scars and to even out my skin tone. Frends Beauty they have a lot of products on website and store they cater to makeup artists,theater,special effects makeup(the makeup I don't have the drive for and its very expensive).Recently I got an email from Morphe Brushes saying I got approved for pro discounts and I jumped for joy,they have cruelty free/vegan products and getting makeup brushes and cosmetic products off site,SWEEET!I haven't heard from NYX Cosmetics yet and I know they are backed up on applications right now. I better have my kit ready by the summer because I've been getting inquires on thumbtack to do makeup for weddings and not yet photo shoots.Thumbtack is pricey and gives me the exposure I want,if I want to give someone a quote it will cost 3 bucks per quote. I've spend 6 bucks already and I'm trying to find another site that have the same service,doesn't cost you money to give quotes and communicate with potential clients.I'm also talking doing makeup for photo shoots with photographers and my niece/assistant will hit up teenagers to do makeup for formals or what not. I've been networking on model mayhem or other places I can post saying hey I want to build my resume let me use your awesome face.If you want me to do your makeup for fun i'm up to it and be prepaid I'll be taking photos=] What's in my makeup kit?I posted the Hard Candy Mascara Lashaholic on other post and its my second favorite mascara and I want to try out Lash Ink since its waterproof.If you have allergies and your eye water pass on Lashaholic,I do wear it if i'm going out a few hours and if its makeup all day and night then waterproof for me.
Eyelashes!!!You need them in your makeup kit if you want to do makeup.I was told if I want to be a "makeup artist" I have to learn how to apply lashes,I know there's chicks out there that would love to have them.The good thing about lashes is you don't need awesome mascara and the mascara is used to stick the natural eyelashes to fake eyelashes.Plus I love eyelashes anyways and they are good to keep around if I want my makeup to be out there.
I did videos and I took pictures because the webcam didn't pick up on things, oh well.One day I'll get a video camera and do fun stuff.The first video is a review on Hard Candy makeup and second video is eye lashes I got in the mail.=] Hard Candy is cruelty free and I'll use it on customers upon request for products that don't harm animals. Bloopers:what I meant to say was eye shadow not mascara,and mascara wand not applicator its kinda the same thing.Yes I have lots of work to do LOL.

On my skin tone the shadows are natural and pretty,the pinks showed up on me well.I'll try out more Hard Candy Pallets.

*blows party horn* it's the new year and I said I would update you on my 1920 look its not super accurate since I'm modern as f**k,the makeup wasn't horrible.I spent a lot of my time in front of the mirror getting ready for the wedding and didn't get a full meal until I got there.The wedding was on a beautiful yacht and I was really nervous due to me having motion sickness issues.Thank the lord I didn't get sick!During prayers in the ceremony I prayed please lord let me get threw the wedding with out my head in the toilet. LOL.The wedding was beautiful and the bride was hot,now on to my makeup I spend all my time on and maybe it will help you out if you are super modern like I am.I had on a blue flapper dress and all of December I rocked a blue outfit to be like a celebrity on red carpet.The flapper dress kept running up since I have a big butt and I shook my butt on the dance floor.I hope my dress was down the whole time.... This is before the wedding,I layered my eye shadows and added glitter on my eye lid since the silver wasn't being nice to me.
I used the Emori pearl pallet again from the awesome secret santa exchange.Its not cruelty free since its made in China and it wont help the animals that been tested on if I throw it away.I'll use it until its gone and not buy it. I used a shimmery black and on darker skin it doesn't show up as a dark black its good for a natural smoky eye.I used the white shimmery I eye shadow to the right as a highlight under my eye brows and inner corner of my eyes.I used shimmery silver bottom left on my eye lid and it took some layering I also applied it wet for it to stay.It creased at the end of the wedding and who cares.I should have used a matte gray shadow as a base for it to say.
Yes its a MAC eye shadow and I purchased it before I found out they are no longer cruelty free.Its a limited edition blue eye shadow and the shade remind me of denim jeans,its a fun blue to play with and it will look good on anyone.The eye shadow was used in the crease.
My favorite black eye shadow in the world!!!NYX Cosmetics matte black and its the darkest black eye shadow if you are a dark skin tone.I tried out MAC Carbon and it wasn't dark enough for me it was used for my natural makeup.NYX is the third item I used that's currently cruelty free and I would cry if they stop being cruelty free and discontinued the black shadow.I used the eye shadow in the crease with the blue eye shadow.
I used the matte powder to set my liquid foundation since I don't have "finishing powder" and I have MAC and Avon products again this is before I found out they stop being nice to animals.LAMENESS!
The MAC lip stick called DARK SIDE!It made me think Star Wars right away and it gives you the sexy vamp look.In the 1920 women worn dark red lip stick and this color worked out great.If I kissed your cheek at the wedding this is the lip stick I wore.=]
This glitter have a lot of uses for me,I purchased this at a Halloween store and loved it since.I used the glitter on my eye lid to support the sliver eye shadow.I rolled the glitter on back of my hand and used a q-tip and dabbed the glitter on my eyes and I didn't put it on lower lid I don't want any irritation during the wedding. That's the modern make up I added.

Gotta have water proof eye liner if you want your eye liner to run down your eyes.
Its new product I purchase recently and I love it!Its the deep brown corrector and the product is made for dark skin with uneven skin or dark ache scars.I put it in areas that bother me and I didn't notice it.The product said it was better with cream foundation and it worked well with liquid foundation.Its cruelty free!YIPPIE!

That is what they use to make brushes for cosmetics,if you are vegan and don't know much about makeup I bet your having a heart attack.Most of my life I used eye shadow applicators and cheap synthetic brushes cause that is what I had access to when I was allowed to wear makeup.I didn't know the difference between "natural" and synthetic brushes until my older sister Tanika gave me more exposure about cosmetics.I knew how to do my makeup well and learning from my sister made makeup application easier,I took what I learned and made it my own.As everyone been reading my blogs it also a journey of switching my makeup kit into cruelty free and vegan due to my belief because I feel its unnecessary to torture animals for cosmetics,cleaning items,etc.If we need a cure I'm ok with animals being used and it could save someones life,I know PETA will not like me and who cares they are crazy anyways.If you check out other sites and blogs they are neutral don't judge you like PETA.The only thing I like about PETA is for their huge database on cruelty free products and how to shop.Back to the brushes,I gone threw my makeup of course to see what kind of brushes I have done research and if you want cruelty free status it involves brushes and I thought I had 100 % synthetic brushes cause that's what I could afford,I didn't buy them to be cruelty free at the time it was affordable.The brushes by Face Secrets sold at Sally's Beauty Supply and I found out most of the products they carry makes PETA scream.Face Secrets and most brands use small percentage of synthetic and majority of the time they add goat hair.I have few Sephora brushes and they are 100% synthetic,the cosmetics are not cruelty free.I do have cruelty free products from Sephora since its recent they changed the status to sale in China.If you are new to reading my blog,China and Brazil(new info) require animal testing to sale products in their country,if you see cosmetics made by China and Brazil its not cruelty free.I have brushes my secret santa sent me two years ago Beaute Basics is cruelty free and I love the brushes I'm happy I have a set that is harmless. Now the controversy of "natural" aka animal fur and hair brushes,let me try to make this brief PETA claims animals such as squirrels get captured and killed during the process to get their fur.Horses are killed for their flesh and take their hair during the process,if you want more info Google PETA and cruelty free brushes. PETA have a huge following of vegetarians and vegans what they say is true,I wouldn't listen to them much cause they are extreme and dramatic about being cruelty free and you are a bad person for eating meat or using products that harm animals.There are companies and consumers claim animals weren't harmed during the process of getting their hair for brushes and sometime PETA blow things out of their a**es.There are companies out there that are good to animals and take fur without killing,if you try to tell that to a vegan its pointless,just use synthetic brushes on them and collect your money. I wouldn't trust what companies say most of the time it's a pain to do research on them,I'll use the brands I trust.If you came up to me and say you don't care about animal testing or animal fur brushes I won't be angry cause its my personal belief and you have the right to your own.The only way it will be a problem if you go around tell me my belief is dumb and your belief is right.
Makeup artists' view on brushes from what I've read that annoy me.Fur brushes are the way to go and its not right cause I don't have problem with synthetic brushes.It depends on the quality and how you do makeup.Well the brushes I currently own are synthetic with fur and few sets and brushes 100% synthetic.Synthetic is good for liquids and can't hold product which is not true for me,"natural" brushes hold more product,easier to use,and gives a nice finish.So can synthetic brushes its all about quality and I didn't have problems.It depends on the artist at the end of the day and if "natural" or synthetic brushes work for you that's awesome.Don't go around telling people that one way is better and be neutral,most of us are starting out and don't have a huge budget.I like to share about budgeting when it comes to makeup cause there is someone out there that can spend below 20 bucks on cosmetics.If you don't care about animal testing and want brushes I'll help you out the best I can,if your budget is not huge your are most likely will have to buy synthetic or fur blend brushes.Plus if you have allergies and rubbing fur on your face could make it flair up,if they make brushes out of dog and car fur I would be miserable. MAC Avon Mary Kay Sephora own synthetic brushes and might have a few that are not check out vegan sites for a bigger list and if you are not sure ask if the brushes are synthetic or not.Personally I wouldn't tell a seller I want cruelty free products and what not,there are places that work on commission and don't want to lose a sell.People out there can be dishonest if they want to make a buck. Now on to cruelty free brushes E.L.F. uses synthetic taklon its a nice synthetic blend.I should give E.L.F. brushes a try then ECO Tools and they use environment friendly materials and they give back to make the environment better. As I'm doing research on cruelty free makeup I came across some videos about people throwing away products because there's lead in it.Yep lead the thing that is in makeup that can cause "cancer" and most vegan products use all natural things,that's why some people switch to vegan or cruelty free to avoid things that can harm your body.Being proactive about your health is nice,when I viewed the videos I think to myself those people will throw away makeup and go eat at McDonalds,I'm not saying that for everyone. There are things around us that can harm us such as food,houses,even breathing the air could be dangerous.When you read the labels on food or products you consume you stand there and think "WHAT THE F**K IS CYCLOHEXASLIOXANE OR I CAN'T READ/PRONOUNCE THESE "SCIENTIFIC" WORDS!!!Companies uses words that don't make sense to the general public so they don't lose profit and people won't be freaked out,if you put lead,rat poison,and cyanide on the label would you buy the product,NO WAY!!!!I gone threw the makeup I have and of course I don't know what the ingredient is and can't read it so I Goggled some words from the Emori and Wet'N'Wild blush, magnanese, propylparaben, cyclohexaslioxane, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate. Magnanese-chemical in stainless steel,hmmm does that sound safe? propylparaben-it disturbs reproductive functions cyclohexaslioxane-its harmful to fish and wildlife....... aluminum starch octenylsuccinate-have substances that can be harmful to the body. Am I freaked out,not really cause there are other things that can harm me in the future other than makeup.If you have a family history of getting cancer or illnesses I would watch what I put in my body.From the information I looked up lead doesn't leave your body no matter what you do,thats a scary thought and tomorrow I'll forget about it when I put on makeup.If you want to look up what brands have lead Google it and MAC have it in the lipsticks.
